Some people say that the American Communist Party would still
be going strong if they had had D+ playing those summer camp
shows instead of Paul Robeson. You know, for the kids. While
it’s a nice thought, and while we've heard that Karl
can do a good version of Ol’ Man River, we don’t
know if it would have worked. And we're not just referring
to the time travel aspect.
What’s a kid going to make of a song like “Mistake”?
(Hell, what do the employees at the Business think of “The
Business”?) This record’s got adult issues all over
it. See, it’s not just about getting right w/ the world;
you’ve also got to get right with w/ yourself and w/
the one you love. And that’s what’s going on here.
This is a good thing because these are some of the most tender
love songs you’ll hear for a while. “What’s
Not To Fall In Love With”, “Take You For Granted”
– this is some moving stuff people. Next time you ride
your bike to the pay phone at the edge of the forest, you’ll
be singing these tunes into his or her answering machine.
